"The lightweight women’s race was won by Christine Cavallo of the United States in World Record time. Cavallo, 22, finished in 6:54.1 shaving 0.6 of a second off the former record. 

World Indoor Rowing Championship Gets High Marks

"The first [record] went to Stanford alumnae Christine Cavallo, who had Linda Muri cheering her on in the open women’s lightweight event. Cavallo, who qualified from California, stormed out to an early lead and kept building it. She completed the piece in 6:54.1, topping the previous mark by six-tenths of a second.

“She had a really well thought-out race plan, and she stuck to it,” Muri said. “She’s doing all the heavy lifting, but I could say something and she just responded right away.” "

Soccer injury charts Olympia rower's course toward world record

""I thought my world was ending when soccer was over," Cavallo said. "I had middle-school, write-in-your-diary plans that I would go to Duke on a soccer scholarship." Cavallo tried non-contact sports, including track, until she registered for a camp with the Orlando Area Rowing Society on a "whim." In the four years since then, Cavallo has broken two world records, rowed with the junior national team and earned a scholarship to Stanford."
